Ana Prvacki and MAI invite you to a five-day Bee Intensive in Karyes, Greece. A continuation of Prvacki’s ongoing bee and honey projects, the Bee Intensive is an immersive, convivial, and active experience that celebrates the role bees play in our culture, history, folklore, and ecology. The carefully conceived program aims to unite myth and science, deepening participants' connection to the natural world and encouraging a sense of humor, pleasure, and resourcefulness. Reflective practices like poetry reading, talking to bees, and storytelling will be paired with active pursuits like movement, nature walks, foraging, and educational talks. The experience will emphasize local, seasonal foods and a strong community connection.
On the occasion of the Bee Intensive, Prvacki and MAI will initiate two permanent gestures. The MAI Honey Safe, a honey bank library created by all the participants who will bring samples of local honey from their home regions. The MAI Honey Safe will continue to grow as deposits are brought by all future visitors to the Foundation. The second project is the building of a MAI Honey Wall, a type of bee hotel common in the region.Working with leading researchers and scientists, new methods of conservation and protection of bee health will be integral. For instance, holistic and sustainable methods of resisting Varroa mites, a leading cause of colony collapse, will be introduced to the regional beekeeping community.
